The fender eliminator is one of the first mods many people make to their Grom, and perhaps the best bang for your buck when it comes to changing the appearance. Honda engineers continue to nail most aspects of our favorite little motorcycle. It’s quick, compact, and a ton of fun. But when it comes to certain design aspects, they drop the ball sometimes. For example, the rear fender area. Like most other motorcycle manufacturers, they continue to craft our bikes from the factory with a massive arching plastic overhang of a rear fender. This is typically where you’ll find the license plate mount, brake light, and turn signals.

While it is functional, there are certainly better ways to accomplish the mission. Thankfully, the aftermarket has embraced the mini-bike frenzy and come to the rescue with a pretty good selection of options that offer a much cleaner look. Also known as a tail tidy, the aftermarket fender eliminator deletes the clutter from the back of your Grom and makes it look faster even while sitting still. (For an even cleaner look, combine it with a set of flush mount turn signals!) Let’s compare a few of the best Grom fender eliminators on the market today.

TST Honda Grom Fender Eliminator Review

The TST fender eliminator is my personal favorite for the SF (new-school) Grom. (They offer a kit for the OG Grom as well!) They offer an excellent fitting, laser cut replacement that allows you to choose two different license plate mounting options. The “Stock” option keeps the plate further back toward the tail of the bike, mounted outward and highly visible. The alternate “Lower” option mounts the plate lower on the bike, tucked closer up against the bike. Because of the sleeker, cleaner look of the “Lower” option, this is the one I prefer, and the mount I run on my personal Grom. The TST fender eliminator is also compatible with the company’s optional LED turn signal pods and low-profile LED license plate light. And at a price point under $50, you really can’t beat it.

Our TOP PICK for the cheapest fender eliminator: Kemimoto
You'll be hard-pressed to find a better value than this kit. It's clean, functional, and goes on super easy.

Vagabond Honda Grom Fender Eliminator Review

The Vagabond Honda Grom fender eliminator is another one of our favorites. It is a very clean, well-engineered piece that goes on easily and fits very well. The pieces are CNC laser cut from aluminum and finished in a black powdercoat. It is designed to work with your factory license plate light and turn signals, but will accommodate aftermarket signals and/or an integrated taillight as well. If you opt to run an integrated taillight, the license plate mount will just be tucked up closer to the bike.

For the SF Grom, this kit comes with two main pieces. In addition to the traditional tidy tail piece that your license plate attaches to, you will get a nice clean trim piece which really helps clean up your tail section. The OG Grom kit is one piece, but the fit and finish is just as squeaky clean.

Yoshimura Honda Grom Fender Eliminator Review

Yoshimura was one of the first in the game to offer a fender eliminator for the OG Honda Grom. I wasn’t initially a fan of their kit for the OG Grom. Honestly, I’m still not crazy about it today. In my opinion, there is still too much material with the OG kit. It doesn’t do much to ‘tidy’ up the tail section. (I like their kit for the SF Grom much better.) It is one of the pricier kits due to the fact that they come with a sleek LED license plate light built in. You can also tell from the pictures below that it is just more of a complete unit than the others. It features a full branded license plate frame, which you either love or hate.

As far as the fit and finish with these kits are concerned, they are right up there with the others. The black, anodized aluminum license plate bracket is structurally sound and well engineered to fit like you would expect. And, the mounting bracket is laser-cut stainless steel. Like the other kits, the Yoshimura is designed to be compatible with aftermarket LED turn signals.

Hotbodies Honda Grom Fender Eliminator Review

Hotbodies has been a big player in the aftermarket motorcycle accessory game for a long, long time. So, its no surprise that they jumped into the mini-bike scene with their signature tail tidy. One look at this piece, on both the OG and the SF, and you can quickly tell who made it. Both kits successfully clean up the tail section, getting rid of all the noisy and useless factory plastic. In its place is a streamlined and compact replacement featuring Hobodies’ iconic rectangular LED turn signals tucked up on the body of the bike. The new mounting point for the license plate is high and tight, angled slightly outward like most kits. Both kits also feature a built-in LED license plate light.

Our TOP pick for the cleanest kit: Hotbodies
It gets no cleaner than this simple kit by Hotbodies. Made of durable ABS plastic similar to what's already on your bike, and integrates clean accessory lighting...

Fit and finish on the Hotbodies fender eliminator kit is excellent. The ABS plastic is surprisingly durable, and is precision engineered and cut to fit perfectly. The only potential downside to the SF kit that we were able to come up with was the finish. While not a deal-breaker for most, the plastic has a bit of a shine to the finish. It sort of stands out in contrast to the matte plastic finish on the fail section of a factory SF. This can easily be overcome with a can of plasti-dip, or by simply paint matching the whole bike.
