Who doesn’t love a 50cc pit bike? For many of us, these little dirt bikes are what first got us hooked on motorcycles. Whether you’re looking for something to put around the racetrack or your child’s first bike, Syx Moto has what you’re looking for. A subsidiary brand of Ice Bear, a prominent player in the pit bike market, Syx Moto is a relatively new player in the pit bike market, but has really taken it by storm. In our Best Cheap Pit Bike Options post back in May, we mentioned them briefly but today is all about the Syx. Based out in California (aren’t all the distributors?), they churn out three different models that we’ll cover in detail here. So before you buy, read on. This is everything you need to know about about the different pit bikes on the market from Syx Moto.

The Syx Moto Holeshot 50cc pit bike

The Holeshot is where it all began. Think of it as the standard, base level model – the Honda Civic, if you will. This bike is SUPER affordable. In fact, for around $300, you can actually get a brand new Holeshot shipped to your door. This is a 50cc 2-stroke dirt bike that cranks out a ground-pounding 2.52 horsepower to the 2.5-10 rear tire, and can reach speeds up to 30 miles per hour.

Our favorite 2-stroke mini

For those of you who aren’t familiar with 2-stroke engines, that means you have to mix a little bit of oil in with your gas before you fill it up (using a ratio of 25:1, to be exact). Don’t let that deter you though – it’s easy. Just means you’ll need to keep an extra gas can around (marked “2-stroke” of course!) Keeping it pretty basic, the engine is pull-start and air-cooled. It’s kind of like a chainsaw, except your kids can ride it and it doesn’t kill people.

For those of you shopping for a little one, the Syx Moto Holeshot is pretty much the perfect starter bike. With a seat height at only 21″, your little tike should have no issues touching both feet to the ground if they are of average starter age (think 4-6 years old). (The low center of gravity also makes for easy maneuvering!) Making this 50cc pit bike even more beginner-friendly, it features a fully automatic centrifugal transmission. These types of transmissions require virtually no input from the rider: no hand clutch, and no shifting! Instead, they use natural centrifugal forces to do the work for you so you can focus on riding. No doubt you’ve used them before. They’re common in scooters, go karts, and some riding lawn mowers.

Even beyond the engine and transmission, the Syx Moto Holeshot is a pretty well-equipped little bike! They come in a wide variety of colors and are clad with some pretty wicked graphics. The plastics are strong and durable, and should be able to take whatever you throw at it. Front and rear disc brakes are standard on the Holeshot and are more than sufficient at bringing this power house to a quick stop.

How fast is a Syx Moto dirt bike?

The 50cc Syx Moto dirt bike has a max speed of 30 miles per hour. However, there are a few different models to choose from. Obviously, the bigger the engine, the faster the bike. The 125cc gas powered model has a max speed of 50 miles per hour as shown in the speed comparison below.

What is the Weight Limit on the Syx Moto 50cc?

You might be surprised to learn that these little bikes can carry up to 176 pounds. Crazy, right? That means many teenagers and even adults can hop on and rip the Syx Moto around the yard without trouble. This is thanks to a surprisingly durable frame and suspension. A modern 190.5mm shock absorber keeps the rear in check while two inverted springs are situated in the front forks.

Does the Syx Moto come assembled?

The million dollar question! Yes – for the most part, that is. Your new Holeshot will arrive to your door (pretty quickly) about 85% assembled. What the heck does that mean? It means all you will have to do is bolt on the rear shock, mount up the front wheel, throw the handlebars on, and screw on the front fender. Syx Moto even sends out a little tool kit with all the tools necessary to put these few pieces on! Easy peezy.

A step up: the Holeshot X 50cc pit bike

The Holeshot X is pretty much the base bike’s (slightly larger) twin. Mechanically, the X is identical to the base 50cc bike. They share the same two stroke single piston engine and the same easy automatic transmission. In rolling out the Holeshot X, Syx Moto wanted to offer a slightly larger platform that could support a larger rider, and threw on a couple cool new features as well.

What’s new on the Holeshot X?

As we indicated above, the X was designed for a slightly bigger rider. The seat height is 23″, which is a full 2″ taller than the base model. Even more impressive, this bike is rated to carry up to 198 pounds! (Still too small for this rider (writer?), but good enough for most. One of those cool new features we mentioned is the speed governor. For those of you looking to pick up a starter 50cc pit bike for your little one, this is key. This feature allows parents to set the bike’s maximum speed at either 15 or 30 miles per hour, which will no doubt offer some peace-of-mind. Another new feature for the Holeshot X is the kill switch, which gives you the opportunity to shut the bike down immediately.

Syx Moto Tearoff: the 60cc 4-stroke

The Tearoff is arguably the top-tier pit bike of this group. Engineers equipped this one with a slightly larger 60cc 4-stroke engine. As a result, there is no need to keep mixed gas around all the time. You can fill it up with gasoline straight from the pump! The one feature that people seem to love most about the Tearoff is the electric start. In other words, no need for mom or dad to come out and pull-start the engine! Just push the button and go!

The 4-stroke bike

Syx Moto equipped the Tearoff with a well-engineered four stroke engine from Zongshen. For those of you unfamiliar with the company, they’ve been around since the early 90’s and have a an established track record of cranking out a wide variety of high performing and dependable machines over the years. Above all, they are a heavy hitter on the China Superbike Championship circuit. In other words, you can rest assured that your new bike is coming equipped with the right parts. Surprisingly, the Tearoff’s max speed is about 25 miles per hour, which is slightly lower than its 50cc cousin. Maximum weight capacity with these bikes are rated at 143 pounds. In conclusion, the Tearoff is geared toward the smaller rider but is built out with better options than the two stroke Holeshot alternatives.
