With all the distracted drivers out there texting, doing makeup, taking selfies, and doing just about everything other than what they should be doing behind the wheel, it’s just not worth the risk to ride without a helmet nowadays. For 2020, we’ve picked the DOT certified ScorpionExo Covert as our favorite modular custom motorcycle helmet. What exactly is a modular helmet? As you can see, this type of helmet gives the rider options on any given day. While it is technically a half face (or open face) helmet, it features an awesome removable front mask that is secured with neodymium magnets. When attached, it just looks like a rad full face helmet.

The sun visor is tinted to help with glare and is also retractable. For those of us not lucky enough to live on the west coast, the standard tinted visor can be swapped out on the fly for a clear version, which is included! The outer shell is an advanced LG polycarbonate that was developed exclusively by Scorpion. It comes in a variety of sizes, all the way up to 3XL, and it weighs just a hair under 4 pounds.

Our pick for the top open face custom motorcycle helmet this year is the Warrior by Vega. First and foremost, it is DOT certified (see a trend here?). They really nailed the designs with this one, adorning the shell with either a glass or matte finish and your choice of some truly awesome designs. Pictured here are our two favorites: the patriotic matte black, and the ‘back the blue’ option. One of our favorite features is the size adjustment dial that gives you the ability to dial the fit in just right. Inside, the helmet features a moisture-wicking liner and is packed full of vented EPS foam for added protection and comfort. EPS stands for expanded polystyrene, and is the go-to foam used in most helmets, and even inside some car bumpers.

We love the fact that this helmet is super light, weighing in at approximately 2.2 pounds. It features a retractable tinted visor that protects the rider from bugs and road debris. The Warrior is available in various sizes up to a 2XL and is guaranteed make a statement, regardless of what you ride.

Picking a favorite full face helmet each year is no easy task. With this being the most popular style among our staff, there is never a lack of opinions and spirited arguing to go around. This year, the votes ultimately decided on the Biohazard helmet by Triangle.

Now, before the brand purists rise up in arms over our decision here, just know that we try and find the perfect balance between a quality product and price for this list. And once you dive into the features and benefits of this particular helmet, it is really hard to go wrong with the price. This is an excellent choice for beginning riders, or someone wanting to give the full face helmet a try for the first time.

Of course, this helmet is DOT approved, and features a high pressure advanced ABS shell designed to keep the rider intact under impact. Ventilation is built into both the top and rear in order to facilitate airflow and keep the rider cool in the warmer riding months. Helmet weight comes in at just a hair over 3 pounds, which isn’t bad for a full face helmet. Riders can opt for one of two vibrant graphic designs – neon green or neon pink – to contrast the matte black finish of the shell.

This is probably the most fun we had with any category in this year’s top helmet list. Just look at these designs! It is hard to go wrong with any of the 13 different designs available from TORC on their T50 Route 66 helmet. This DOT approved helmet features a sturdy outer shell with a five button snap system.

Our favorite thing about this helmet is the ultra suede inner lining that covers the padding. It is super comfortable and cool to the touch. The removable cheek pads make for easy and convenient cleaning. The helmet comes in a variety of truly awesome designs and is available in multiple sizes up to 2XL.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a better deal than this Indian-themed full face custom motorcycle helmet from Triangle. This DOT-approved lid comes in four different color options in this design, along with another American flag design. Don’t let the low price fool you. The shell on this bad boy is advanced ABS like the others and the inside is packed full of comfy multi density EPS liner which is entirely removable and washable. Compared to the others, this helmet is a little on the heavier side, weighing in at 4.3 pounds. Triangle did a good job with the ventilation system, adding vents on both the top and rear.

Even though it didn’t make our top list, we couldn’t help but mention this sick lid from Nenki. This DOT-approved helmet features a super detailed custom Spiderman design that is sure to turn heads wherever you go. The iridium flip-down visor adds even more flare to the helmet and really pops in the sun. As a bonus, there’s a built in custom sun shade that you can use to fight off the sun’s glare when you want to cruise with the main visor open. There are multiple vents that help direct airflow in and around the head, and the inner padding is fully removable for cleaning. P.S.
